Al Capone Jailed

On October 17, 1931, notorious Chicago gangster Al Capone was sentenced to 11 years in federal prison for tax evasion. Although responsible for the St. Valentine's Day Massacre and running a massive bootlegging empire during Prohibition, authorities could only convict him on tax charges. His imprisonment at Alcatraz signaled the decline of his organized crime syndicate.
