First Modern Summer Olympics

On April 6, 1896, the first modern Olympic Games opened in Athens, Greece. Organized by Pierre de Coubertin. 241 athletes from 14 nations competed, with the largest delegations coming from Greece, Germany, France and Great Britain. It revived the ancient Greek tradition and launched the modern international Olympic movement.
