Event Details
In 1793, Lord Cornwallis introduced the Permanent Settlement in Bengal, Bihar, and Odisha.
Details: It fixed the land revenue to be paid by landlords (Zamindars) to the British East India Company in perpetuity.
Legacy: It created a class of loyal Zamindars but often led to the exploitation of peasants and stagnation in agricultural productivity.
