Discovery of the Neutron

In 1932, James Chadwick performed experiments proving the existence of the neutron, a neutral subatomic particle in the atomic nucleus.

The discovery completed the basic model of the atom and was crucial for the development of nuclear fission, as neutrons could penetrate the nucleus without being repelled.
