Event Details
On December 16, 1944, Nazi Germany launched a massive surprise counteroffensive in the Ardennes region of Belgium and Luxembourg. Known as the Battle of the Bulge, it was the largest and bloodiest single battle fought by the U.S. in World War II, involving over 600,000 GIs.
The Allied victory exhausted Germany's remaining resources, paving the way for the final defeat of the Nazi regime.
