Event Details
On April 10, 2019, the Event Horizon Telescope collaboration released the first-ever direct image of a black hole's shadow. The image showed the supermassive black hole at the center of the galaxy M87.
It provided visual confirmation of the existence of black holes and allowed scientists to test General Relativity under extreme conditions.
