Event Details

On January 29, 1863, the United States Army led by Colonel Patrick Connor attacked a Shoshone encampment at the confluence of the Bear River and Beaver Creek in present-day Idaho.

Tragedy: The attack resulted in the massacre of approximately 250 to 400 Shoshone men, women, and children. It stands as one of the deadliest massacres of Native Americans in the history of the American West.
