Battle of Puebla (Cinco de Mayo)

On May 5, 1862, a Mexican army led by General Ignacio Zaragoza defeated a much larger and better-equipped French force at the Battle of Puebla.

Celebrated as Cinco de Mayo, it became a symbol of Mexican resistance to foreign intervention, though it is often mistaken for Mexican Independence Day.
