Event Details
On October 16, 1888, George Lusk, head of the Whitechapel Vigilance Committee, received a small box containing half a preserved human kidney. It was accompanied by a letter sent "From Hell."
The writer claimed to have fried and eaten the other half. Medical opinion was divided on whether the kidney belonged to Catherine Eddowes, but this remains the most chilling and potentially authentic communication from the killer.
