Discovery of Uranus

The astronomer William Herschel discovered the planet Uranus on March 13, 1781, while surveying stars from his garden in Bath, England.

Initially believing it to be a comet, Herschel later confirmed it was a planet, making it the first planet discovered using a telescope and expanding the known boundaries of the solar system.
