Invention of the Transistor

On December 16, 1947, John Bardeen, Walter Brattain, and William Shockley at Bell Labs successfully demonstrated the first point-contact transistor.

The transistor replaced bulky vacuum tubes, allowing electronic devices to become smaller, cheaper, and more reliable. It is the fundamental building block of modern electronics and the Information Age.
