First Human in Space

On April 12, 1961, Soviet cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin became the first human to journey into outer space. His Vostok 1 spacecraft completed one orbit of the Earth.

It demonstrated that humans could survive in space, paving the way for human spaceflight, lunar landings, and permanent space stations.
