Event Details
On December 16, 1773, the Sons of Liberty, some disguised as Mohawk warriors, boarded three British ships in Boston Harbor and dumped 342 chests of tea into the water. This act of protest against the Tea Act escalated tensions between Britain and the colonies.
It led to the Coercive Acts (Intolerable Acts), which united the colonies and precipitated the American Revolutionary War.
