Event Details
On March 8, 1917 (February 23 on the Julian calendar), thousands of women textile workers in Petrograd went on strike demanding 'Bread and Peace', sparking the February Revolution.
The protests quickly grew, leading to the abdication of Czar Nicholas II and the end of the Russian Empire. The date was later chosen for International Women's Day.
