Harriet Tubman, the renowned abolitionist and political activist, died of pneumonia on March 10, 1913, in Auburn, New York.

Born into slavery, she escaped and made some 13 missions to rescue approximately 70 enslaved people using the network known as the Underground Railroad. She also served as a scout and spy for the Union Army.
