Event Details

Shortly after the Eddowes murder, a piece of her bloodstained apron was found in the entryway of a tenement on Goulston Street. Above it was a chalk message: "The Juwes are the men that will not be blamed for nothing."

Metropolitan Police Commissioner Sir Charles Warren ordered the graffito erased before sunrise to prevent anti-Semitic riots, a decision that remains controversial among historians.
