On April 19, 1993, the 51-day siege of the Branch Davidian compound in Waco, Texas, ended violently when the FBI launched a tear gas assault. A fire broke out, engulfing the building and killing 76 people, including leader David Koresh and 25 children. The tragedy fueled anti-government sentiment and was cited by Timothy McVeigh as a motivation for the Oklahoma City Bombing.
