January 28 Incident (Shanghai)

The January 28 Incident, also known as the First Battle of Shanghai, began when Japanese forces attacked Chinese troops in the Zhabei district of Shanghai. The conflict was sparked by rising anti-Japanese sentiment and protests.

Conflict: The fighting lasted for over a month before a ceasefire was brokered by the League of Nations. The incident was a precursor to the full-scale Second Sino-Japanese War that would begin in 1937.
