Stamp Act Repealed

Following fierce protests in the American colonies, the British Parliament repealed the Stamp Act on March 18, 1766. The act had imposed a direct tax on printed materials.

While the repeal was celebrated, Parliament simultaneously passed the Declaratory Act, asserting its absolute power to legislate for the colonies, maintaining the friction that would lead to war.
